Young people in Barnet are putting the question below at the Youth Board on Thursday 27 January. It refers to the fact that the council plans to close the entire youth service over the course of the next four years.

Would it be possible to clarify the certainty of the following cuts, as phrased in a report to the council published in December last year?

• In year 3 (2013/14) “cease all remaining activity to support young people through youth services”, saving £960k
• “Cease youth services at two premises”, saving £50,000: which two premises might this be? The report does not specify.
• “Cease all remaining activity to support young people through youth services” in year 4.

The report states that these are part of the “Youth Offer” proposals, presented to the BYB annual general meeting. Are they still part of this package?

The report itself warns that the final proposal will “lead to higher number of young people not in education, employment and training, young offenders, teenage pregnancy etc. It will mean the closure of all centres, the ending of local authority co-ordinated Duke of Edinburgh and outreach work”.
