Barnet council plans to close Friern Barnet library. They say people from Friern Barnet and North Finchley libraries will be able to get their books in future from a new facility at the Arts Depot in North Finchley.

Friern Barnet residents are opposing the closure of their library. North Finchley is too far for many of the people using the library to go. Many residents also say that Friern Barnet has no real centre without the library, quite literally it is the heart of their community.

A demonstration outside Friern Barnet library on Saturday 7 May went well with good attendance and 150 signatures gathered on the hardcopy petition. You can sign the electronic version on Barnet council’s website here.

Residents are planning another demonstration outside the library on Saturday 21 May – please join in if you can.

Local schools are getting involved, they plan to join up all the children and get them to write to the papers/MPs, etc. There is plenty of fighting spirit!

The campaign has set up its own blog: https://sites.google.com/site/savefriernbarnetlibrary. And you can follow them on Twitter: @friernblibrary.
